Spiders

What are spiders?

Spiders are arachnids, not insects, and have two body parts and eight legs, instead of three body parts and six legs. They also have fangs they use to inject venom to subdue their prey or as a means of defense. Spiders come in a variety of sizes, shapes, and colors, but all lack antennae and wings.

These pests are shy, staying out of sight of people and possible predators. One of the most common species of spider that enters homes and other structures is the house spider. They vary in color but are usually yellowish-brown with dark chevron markings on their body and legs. House spiders are regularly seen hanging along the edges of their webs.

Are spiders dangerous?

While there are venomous spiders in the U.S. that can negatively affect health.  The house spider, however, is not an arachnid that falls into the dangerous category.

They are a nuisance pest that may leave webs all throughout your home and possibly scare you in the shower.  If held, they may bite but their bites cannot cause health problems.

Why do I have spider problem?

The most likely reasons that spiders are on your property is that there are safe, sheltered areas to build their webs and other pest problems present. Spiders are predators and feed on a variety of insects including common house-infesting bugs and mosquitoes. Therefore, if your home is occupied by pests, you're likely going to have spiders taking up residence as well, you'll need effective spider control to help eliminate these pests.

Where will I find spiders?

House spiders build their nests up off of the ground. Outside they construct spider webs in shrubs and bushes, gardens, corners of doors, and under roof eaves. They also like to build their webs near outdoor lights which attract insects.

Inside they place their webs in the corners of closets and rooms, on light fixtures, in basements, and attics.
